Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 589 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 36 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a one-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm yesterday (March 19) and a total of 278 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 462 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 127 for other traffic offences.  

     Twenty pedestrians and 83 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 252 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to February this year, of which 84 pedestrians were involved. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 51.2 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
