Junior Police Call members and groups commended for their contributions (with photos)

      A total of 271 winners of the Hongkong Bank Foundation Junior Police Call (JPC) Awards 2011 were commended today (March 17) for their outstanding contributions in disseminating fight crime messages, promoting the JPC Scheme, as well as organising and participating in community services.

      They received commendation trophies and cash awards from the Commissioner of Police, Mr Tsang Wai-hung; and HSBC Chief Operating Officer Asia Pacific Region, Mr Raymond Cheng, at the presentation ceremony.

      Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Superintendent of Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB), Mr Wong Kwok-wai, said that the JPC Scheme had made significant developments and secured support from community over the past 37 years.

      ˇ§Members had benefited from various training courses, and mainland and overseas visits. They were committed to serving and caring for the community through active participation in volunteer services, fight crime and anti-drug activities,ˇ¨ he said.

      Noting that the scheme currently had more than 190 000 members, including over 1 360 non-ethnic Chinese, Mr Wong thanked JPC honorary presidents, school principals, teachers and school clubs for their unfailing support and made the scheme a success.

      Mr Cheng also commended the scheme's positive and sustainable impacts on young peopleˇ¦s personal growth. He said: "HSBC has been a strong supporter of education, in particular projects designed to enhance students' holistic development. We are proud to have funded the JPC Awards Scheme since 1986, and hope that members will strive to develop a positive attitude and be better equipped for challenges and responsibilities in life through participating in JPC activities."
   
      Organised by the Police with a total funding of more than HK$5 million sponsored by the Hongkong Bank Foundation for the past 26 years, the Awards comprises five categories: Best JPC Member, Best JPC Leader/Advanced Leader, Best JPC School Club (Primary School), Best JPC School Club (Secondary School) and Best JPC District Council.

      A selection panel made up of representatives from the PPRB, HSBC, JPC Central Advisory Board and a non-governmental organisation picked the winners from district selection boards and final selection boards at the Police Headquarters.

      Ms Leung Hoi-ling from Tsuen Wan District was selected as the Best JPC Member and Ms Yiu Yuen-yee from Sham Shui Po District the Best JPC Advanced Leader.  Each received a commendation trophy and $8,000 cash award.

      The Tsuen Wan Government Secondary School of Tsuen Wan District and St. Bonaventure Catholic Primary School of Wong Tai Sin District won the Best JPC School Club (Secondary School) and the Best JPC School Club (Primary School) awards respectively.  The former received a cash award of $13,000 and the latter $9,000.  The Best JPC District Council award went to Sham Shui Po JPC District Council, which was honoured with a $21,000 cash award.
