Charles Castleman to play Tchaikovsky classics with Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra
*********************************************************

The Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra will collaborate with renowned violinist Charles Castleman in April for two concerts featuring three classical works by Tchaikovsky.

The enriching programme includes "Romeo and Juliet Overture" with guest conductor Professor Gabriel Leung; "Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35", under the baton of Dr Yip Wai-hong; and "Symphony No.4 in F minor, Op. 36", under assistant conductor Law Po-kwan.

Charles Castleman, perhaps the world's most active performer on the violin, has been a soloist with orchestras in Philadelphia, Boston, Brisbane, Chicago, Hong Kong, Moscow, Mexico City, New York, San Francisco, Seoul and Shanghai. His medal-winning performance in Brussels of a Lˆmon Jongen concerto is included in a CD set of the 17 best prize-winning performances from the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition's 50-year history.

The Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra was established in 1996. Members, aged from 7 to 18, are recruited in highly competitive open auditions and most of the violinists have obtained internationally-recognised diplomas. Trained under the baton of Yip Wing-sie, the orchestra has been invited to perform at various important occasions, including concerts in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, the United States and Canada.
