FEHD orders Yuen Long restaurant to suspend business for 24 days
************************************************************

The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a Yuen Long restaurant to suspend business for 24 days.

The operator repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation by illegally extending the business area.

The restaurant, located on the ground floor of Block K of Wing Fat Building at 24 Ma Miu Road in Yuen Long, was ordered to suspend business from today (March 12) to April 4.

"Between May 2009 and June last year, a total of six convictions on the breach were recorded against the food establishment," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said.

"A total fine of $21,000 was levied by the court and 90 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the cancellation of the licence," the spokesman said.

The licensee lodged an appeal to the Municipal Services Appeals Board. The Board decided to suspend the restaurant licence for 24 days.

The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the Food Business Regulation, or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.
