The Leisure and Cultural Services Department is organising a brass music lecture series to be held in April and May. Veteran musician Albert Ho will introduce the brass instruments - trumpet, horn, trombone and tuba - and discuss how they sound, their characteristics and their roles in an orchestra.
A graduate of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Albert Ho has been teaching music studies at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts for more than 10 years. Ho has also been a freelance oboist for the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and a part-time lecturer in the School of Continuing Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (now known as the School of Continuing and Professional Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong) and the Alliance Bible Seminary. Ho has frequently participated as a speaker for various organisations and is a host for various programmes at Radio Television Hong Kong.
The eight lectures, to be conducted in Cantonese, will take place at 7.30pm on April 11, 18 and 25 and May 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 (Wednesdays) at the Lecture Hall, Hong Kong Space Museum. Tickets priced at $50 per talk are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20 per cent is offered for group bookings.
