Electoral Affairs Commission committed to a fair and clean Chief Executive Election

The following is issued on behalf of the Electoral Affairs Commission:

     In the light of the recent media reports concerning allegations of improper activities in the Chief Executive Election, Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Barnabas Fung Wah, stressed today (March 10) that the elections in Hong Kong have all along been fair and clean.

     "I understand the law enforcement agencies are following up on the reports and will handle the matter in accordance with the law. The Commission will not tolerate any activities discrediting the clean electoral culture which has been long established in Hong Kong. We are fully committed to ensuring the Chief Executive Election will continue to be conducted in an open, fair, honest and clean manner," Mr Justice Fung said.

     "The Commission strongly appeal to all candidates and their supporters to strictly abide by the electoral laws and the electoral guidelines. They should fully co-operate with the Commission and the departments concerned to uphold the well established electoral culture in Hong Kong," he said.
