Appointment to MPFA
*******************

The Financial Secretary, in exercise of the authority delegated by the Chief Executive, has re-appointed Mr Rimsky Yuen Kwok-keung as a non-executive director of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) for a term of two years starting from March 17, 2012.

"Mr Yuen has tendered valuable advice to the MPFA in the past two years. In particular, he has made significant contributions on the review of withdrawal of Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) benefits as well as on the development of a statutory regulatory framework for MPF intermediaries, in his capacity as the Chairman of the relevant working groups. We look forward to his continuous contribution to the work of the MPFA," a spokesman for the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau said today (March 9).

Mr Yuen is a Senior Counsel and has an exemplary public service record. Currently, he is serving on a number of advisory committees, including as Chairman of the Transport Advisory Committee.

The MPFA is a statutory body established in September 1998 under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance for the regulation and supervision of the MPF System. The MPF System commenced operation in December 2000, with an objective of assisting the working population to accumulate retirement savings. As at the end of December 2011, the MPF System covered more than 2.5 million scheme members with a total net asset value of more than $356 billion.
