800 students build spectacular display for flower show (with photos)
************************************************************

Over 800 students from 29 schools, in showing their cooperative and team spirit, joined hands to put up the spectacular mosaiculture display "Tropical Delights" at Victoria Park today (March 3).

The display features tropical fruits from around the world, against a background of green meadows and scenic beaches. Each type of fruit is accompanied by the local costume of its main country of production, marking the international confluence of diverse cultures in Hong Kong. It will be exhibited in the coming Hong Kong Flower Show to be held from March 16 to 25.

The mosaiculture display is embellished with more than 30,000 colourful flowering plants of various species, including Kalanchoe, Carnation, Impatiens, Senecio, Chrysanthemum, Cuphea, Myosotis sylvatica. The lovely plant sculptures include durian and mangosteen from Thailand, mango and banana from the Philippines, watermelon and pineapple from Taiwan, rambutan from Mexico, and passion fruit from Hawaii, creating a tropical world of fun. Some of them are designed with movable parts, adding motion to the spectacular display to conjure up a tropical world of fun.

The annual Hong Kong Flower Show, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), will be held in Victoria Park for ten days between March 16 and 25, from 9am to 9pm daily. This year's flower show features the hyacinth as its theme flower and "Floral Delights" as its theme.

In addition to this year's hyacinth theme flower and other flowering plants, the event will showcase a rich profusion of exquisite potted plants, beautiful floral arrangements and gorgeous landscape displays by organisations from Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas. There will also be commercial stalls selling flowers, horticultural products, fast food and other items.

A rich diversity of educational and recreational fringe activities will also be organised for the enjoyment of visitors of all ages, including music and cultural performances, floral art demonstrations, cooking demonstrations, plant maintenance workshops, green stalls, guided visits, recreation programmes and fun games.

Admission tickets to the Hong Kong Flower Show 2012 are available now until March 25 at the LCSD's District Leisure Services Offices, and leisure venues with Leisure Link services.
