Special Traffic and Transport Arrangements for Public Procession in Wan Chai and Central Districts tomorrow

     The Transport Department (TD) today (March 2) reminded that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in Causeway Bay, Wan Chai and Central from about 2pm on tomorrow (March 3) to facilitate the holding of a public procession.

     The public procession will start from Victoria Park at about 3pm with the destination at the new Central Government Offices in Tamar via Gloucester Road, Sugar Street, Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound, Queen's Road Central westbound, Pedder Street, Connaught Road Central eastbound, Harcourt Road eastbound and Tim Mei Avenue northbound.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

Road closure
------------

Phase I

     The following roads will be closed from about 2pm:

1. Gloucester Road U-turn slip road between Gloucester Road southbound and northbound;
2. Jardine's Bazaar;
3. Tang Lung Street; and
4. the section of Canal Road East between Hennessy Road and Russell Street.

Phase II

     The following roads will be closed from about 2.30pm:

1. the section of Gloucester Road southbound between Victoria Park Road flyover and Causeway Road (if necessary);
2. Sugar Street;
3. Irving Street (except vehicles heading for Regal Hong Kong Hotel);
4. the section of Yee Wo Street westbound between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road;
5. the section of Yun Ping Road between Kai Chiu Road and Pak Sha Road;
6. Kai Chiu Road;
7. the section of Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road;
8. Hennessy Road westbound;
9. the slow lane of Queensway westbound;
10. certain traffic lanes of Queen's Road Central westbound, Pedder Street and Connaught Road Central eastbound; and
11. the slow lane of Harcourt Road eastbound west of Tim Mei Avenue.

Public transport services
-------------------------

(a) A total of 63 bus routes and 6 green minibus (GMB) routes operating in the affected areas will be temporarily diverted. All bus stops along the procession route will be intermittently suspended from about 2.15pm. Public transport operators will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

(b) The public light bus stands at Sugar Street and GMB stands at Tang Lung Street will be temporarily suspended.

Closure of car parks
--------------------

     All car parks along Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound and Queen's Road Central westbound east of Pedder Street may be closed at short notice if necessary.

     Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use non-road-based public transport services as far as possible. Motorists should avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, they are urged to exercise tolerance and patience, and take heed of directions of the Police in the affected areas.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures when necessary. Motorists and the public should be alert to the latest traffic news broadcast on radio and television.
