The Hong Kong Chamber Choir will collaborate with the Hong Kong Soloists along with an array of local vocalists and an organist for a concert entitled "Te Deum" in April.
Under the baton of Richard Tsang, the groups will perform a series of works by Charpentier, Purcell, Haydn, Handel and Mozart around the theme of "Te Deum". Featuring in the performance will be soprano Rosaline Pi, counter-tenor Enico Luk, tenor Sam Lau, bass Edmund Kwan and organist Wong Kin-yu.
The Hong Kong Chamber Choir was established in 1999 with a specific mission of promoting and performing demanding choral works for small-sized choir. The choir believes that a good solo vocalist can be a good ensemble singer, so the choir places great emphasis on both individual vocalist and choral technique. Consequently, many members are also fine solo singers in their own right. Over the years, the choir has given a number of successful concerts including Schutz's "Christmas Story"; Handel's oratorio "Alexander's Feast"; Bach's "St John Passion", "St Matthew Passion", "Christmas Oratorio", "Magnificat" and "Mass in B minor"; "An Evening of Baroque Motets"; "Voice of the Renaissance"; Handel's pastoral opera "Acis and Galatea"; "Vocal Delights Made in Hong Kong"; Faurˆm's "Requiem"; Haydn's "The Creation" and Purcell's "Anthems".
The Hong Kong Soloists was formed in 1998 by a group of professional musicians and active performers in the local classical music scene. The group's mission is to offer the best class of performance in the classical music world for medium and small orchestras with a special focus on, but not limited to, solo, orchestra and concerto works including vocal repertoire. In so doing, the company hopes to provide an active performance platform for local musicians in Hong Kong.
"Te Deum" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will take place at 8pm on April 1 (Sunday) at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets priced at $80, $100 and $120 are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20 per cent is offered for group bookings.
