CSSA caseload for January

     The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in January showed a drop of 679 cases compared to December 2011, representing a decrease of 0.2 per cent, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (February 22).

     The total CSSA caseload at the end of January stood at 276 031 (see attached table), with a total of 441 307 recipients.

     Analysed by case nature, low-earnings cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 1.3 per cent to 12 157 cases, while unemployment cases showed a decrease of 1.2 per cent to 26 528 cases.

     Single parent cases recorded a decrease of 0.5 per cent to 32 708 cases while permanent disability and ill-health cases showed decreases of 0.3 and 0.1 per cent respectively, to 18 395 and 25 149 cases.

     Old age cases registered a slight increase of 0.1 per cent to 154 038 cases.
