Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 688 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 83 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a one-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (February 20) and a total of 273 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 539 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 149 for other traffic offences.  

     Twenty-two pedestrians and 127 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 236 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in January this year, of which 85 pedestrians were involved. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 48.2 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
