"This is Hong Kong", a handy booklet filled with engaging descriptions of the best of Hong Kong, is now available as a free app for the iPad, the iPhone, Android tablets and Android phones.
Presented in an easy-to-read style, attractively illustrated and incorporating videos, the new multimedia app is the Government's latest initiative to reach out to the IT-savvy generation hooked on their mobile devices.
Potential visitors to Hong Kong and local residents who would like to introduce the city to relatives and friends abroad or across the border will find the new digital version of the booklet particularly useful. The app can also help teachers and students access a wealth of information on Hong Kong's unique characteristics and competitive position.
"This is Hong Kong", produced by the Information Services Department, is structured around the city's core attributes. It explains why there is no other place like Asia's world city. The booklet reveals what makes Hong Kong a diverse, dynamic and cosmopolitan city, closely connected to the rest of Asia and the world and offering a secure environment to live and work in.
It provides essential statistics about the city's economy, snippets on must-see places, interesting trivia and profiles of local figures who have risen to international fame. Also showcased are the city's contrasts, among them the riches of scenic hiking trails, amazing rock formations and huge biodiversity found alongside a bustling international finance, trading, tourism and transport hub with majestic skyscrapers.
The booklet is also available as a web-based version for online browsing. To enhance their usefulness, all electronic versions include hyperlinks leading readers to websites where they can learn more about aspects of particular interest - from city festivals, theme parks and universities to museums, sports and arts events, local transport and Hong Kong Government offices around the world.
