YWCA Chinese Orchestra to perform with the Bear Children's Choir
***********************************************************

The Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra will collaborate with the Bear Children's Choir to give three concerts in March.

Under the batons of Chan Chiu-yin and Tse Kim-fei, the orchestra will perform "The City without Night", "Spring Festival Overture", "Three Xinjiang Folk Songs", "Birthday Celebrations", "Do Re Mi", "A Folk Medley" and "Lullaby". The orchestra will also perform with the Bear Children's Choir in the musical "Frˆore Jacques" (Cantonese version).

Founded in 1962, the Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra is one of the oldest Chinese orchestras in the city. The orchestra is dedicated to introducing a wide range of Chinese folk music to the public, as well as providing training and performing opportunities for local young musicians.

The orchestra has recently collaborated with an array of conductors and musicians from the Mainland and Hong Kong. In 2007, the orchestra visited Melbourne for a concert with the Chao Feng Chinese Orchestra. The orchestra's performances have received great acclaim from audiences and critics alike.

The Bear Children's Choir was formally established in 1997, based on a core group of children who had performed regularly and made various recordings of children's songs, stories and language learning materials since 1987. Choir members are trained in a variety of fields including vocal music, dance, storytelling, professional recording and videotaping, stage performance, making children's MV and webcast programmes. The children are encouraged to explore their interests while also participating in a variety of performance and voluntary work to apply their skills and enhance what they have learned.

The choir has participated in many major productions, including "Cook Up Some Music", "The Magic of Chinese Music", "The Panda's Diary" and the musical "A Precious Little Baby", and also performed in the presentation ceremony for the 21st Hong Kong Film Awards. The choir has been a frequent winner of TVB's 10 Best Children's Song Awards.
