Minister of Health receives Hospital Authority Delegation in Beijing (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Minister of Health, Dr Chen Zhu received the Hospital Authority (HA) Board Members delegation this morning (February 10) in Beijing to have a fruitful discussion and exchange on the healthcare systems and related reforms of the two places.  Led by HA Chairman Mr Anthony Wu, the delegation was invited by the Ministry of Health for a visit to Beijing from February 8 to 10.

     During the three-day visit, the delegation has met with the Party Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Mr Zhang Mao; the Commissioner of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mr Wang Guoqiang; and the Director-General of the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau and the Beijing Hospital Authority, Mr Fang Laiying.  The delegation has also paid a visit to Peking Union Medical College Hospital and attended a dinner meeting with the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr Wang Guangya.

     In the meeting with the delegation today, Mr Chen outlined the vision and future direction of healthcare reform of the 12th  Five-year Plan.  He also highly commended HA for its proven experience in the management of public hospital system as well as the achievements in training of management talent.  He hoped the mainland would be able to learn from the experience of HA.

     Mr Wu expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the continual support and appreciation of the Ministry of Health to HA.  "It is indeed a great honour of HA to be able to contribute towards the reform and development of the mainland's healthcare system. We are looking forward to having more opportunities for sharing on management experience and also exchange on training of talent with the mainland," remarked Mr Wu.

     A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today between HA and the Ministry of Health on the collaboration of management training for healthcare executives to deepen mutual exchange and co-operation.  The Memorandum was signed by HA Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin and The Deputy Director-General of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan of the Ministry of Health, Mr Wang Liji.

     The HA Board Members delegation comprises the Director of Health, Dr Lam Ping-yan, Professor Fok Tai-fai, Dr Joseph Lee Kok-long, Mr David Lie Tai-chong, Dr Donald Li Kwok-tung, Ms Lau Ka-shi, Mr Chan Bing-woon, Ms Quince Chong Wai-yan and Mrs Margaret Leung Ko May-yee.  The delegation will conclude the visit and return to Hong Kong this evening.
