The Government today (February 10) announced the re-appointment of Mrs Gloria Ng Wong Yee-man and Professor Thomas Wong Kwok-shing as the Chairperson and the Vice-Chairperson respectively of the Human Organ Transplant Board for a term of one year.
At the same time, five serving substantive members and 11 serving panel members of the Board have been re-appointed. Two new substantive members and three new panel members have also been appointed.
All appointments will take effect from February 15, 2012. Details are as follows:

The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, welcomed the new members. He also expressed gratitude to the outgoing members, Dr Ip Fu-keung and Mr Ma Ching-nam, who have served for six years, for their invaluable contributions and unfailing support to the Board during their term of office. They will retire from the Board with effect from February 15.
Established under section 3 of the Human Organ Transplant Ordinance, the Board is tasked to consider applications made for the Board's prior written approval to carry out restricted organ removal and/or restricted organ transplant, to receive prescribed information about transplant operations and certificates accompanying imported organs, and to perform any other functions that the Board is required or permitted to perform under the Ordinance.
Under section 3A of the Ordinance, the Board consists of nine substantive members and 14 serving members from the medical, social work, legal and non-medical sectors.
