Community Chest Executive Committee Chairman inspects passing-out parade at HK Police College
******************************************************

The graduates had learnt to uphold high standards of discipline and work as a team to fulfil duties after competing stringent training, Executive Committee Chairman of the Community Chest of Hong Kong, Mrs Margaret Leung, said today (February 4) when inspecting a passing-out parade at the Hong Kong Police College.

A total of 20 probationary inspectors and 145 recruit constables passed out today.

Mrs Leung encouraged them to serve the community with passion and devotion and not to forget that they were not working alone but were members of a strong team.

She noted that the Force took the responsibility to serve at the front to fight crime and protect public safety, adding that although frontline officers from patrol teams, emergency units and Police Tactical Units (PTU) were more visible to the general public, they were actually supported by a strong police team behind.

ˇ§In the banking industry, we also realised that both frontline and support staff are equally important in serving customers. Apart from doing the best by the individuals, team spirit is also very important as any mistakes in a single part may cause serious consequences,ˇ¨ she said.

Mrs Leung recalled that, three years ago, she and 130 volunteers participated in the ˇ§PTU Headquarters Charity Open Dayˇ¨ to take care of 1 200 underprivileged children and the elderly. The event was co-organised by the Community Chest and the Force.

ˇ§It was an eye-opening experience as police officers showed their skills in handling riots, rescuing hostages and subduing suspects. Though it was only a drill, all officers concentrated on their work and demonstrated their team spirit in a professional manner.ˇ¨
