Man jailed for conspiracy to steal and breach of condition of stay

     A Mainland man, aged 29, was sentenced to 36 months¡¦ and 2 months¡¦ imprisonment at the District Court today (January 31) for conspiracy to steal and breach of condition of stay respectively. Both sentences are to be served concurrently.

     The District Court heard that the defendant conspired to use fake bank cards to withdraw cash from Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) in Yau Ma Tei between May 19 and June 7, 2011.

     On June 8, 2011, Commercial Crime Bureau officers arrested the man at a guesthouse in Yau Ma Tei and seized a total of 80 fake bank cards, skimmer device, embossing machine, tipping machine, 607 pieces of withdrawal slips and a sum of HK$57,600 cash were seized.

     The man was subsequently charged for one count of conspiracy to steal and one count of breach of condition of stay. He was convicted at the District Court and the sentences were handed down today.
