Employment agency fined for overcharging job seeker
***************************************************

The Labour Department has reminded employment agencies to comply with the law or face prosecution and possible revocation of licence in light of a recent court case.

The licensee of Harbour Green Employment Agency was fined $5,000 at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts for overcharging a job seeker and was also ordered to pay compensation of $2,626 to the job seeker concerned.

The Employment Agencies Administration of the Labour Department received a complaint of overcharging from a foreign domestic helper against the employment agency concerned in August 2011. The investigation revealed that the said agency collected excessive placement fees from the complainant.

For inquiries or complaints against unlicensed operations or overcharging of commissions by employment agencies, please call the Employment Agencies Administration at 2852 3535 or visit its office at 12/F, Harbour Building, 38 Pier Road, Central, Hong Kong.
