************************************************************

     The Labour Department (LD) today (January 31) launched the "Interactive Employment Service" (iES) smartphone application (app). The public can download the app from the Apple App Store for free.

     With the rapid development of new technology, smartphones and mobile reading devices have become increasingly popular. The development of the app is aimed at extending and enhancing the services provided by the iES website of the LD. Job seekers can use this app with their mobile devices to search for suitable vacancies in the huge job vacancy database of the LD anytime and anywhere.

     The app provides the following functions and job-related information:

* real-time access to the iES database for job searching;
* different criteria for vacancy search;
* sorting of vacancy search results;
* saving of selected vacancies for offline browsing;
* latest vacancies of Government Non-Civil Service Contract Posts;
* latest information on recruitment activities at Job Centres;
* updated addresses, telephone numbers, opening hours and map locations of Job Centres; and
* support for traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese and English.

     The version launched first is applicable for the iPhone and the iPad. A version for Google's Android operating system will be launched in the late first quarter of 2012.

     For enquiries, please contact the Employment Services (Information System) Office of the LD by email (esadmin@labour.gov.hk).
