Appointments to Standing Committee on Company Law Reform
********************************************************

The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, has re-appointed seven non-official members to the Standing Committee on Company Law Reform (SCCLR).

Mrs Anne Carver and Ms Edith Shih, having served the SCCLR for five years, have been re-appointed for a term of one year.  Mr Vincent Fan Chor-wah, Mr Peter Greenwood, Mr Stephen Birkett, Mr Rock Chen Chung-nin and Dr Kelvin Wong Tin-yau have been re-appointed for a term of two years.  Their new term will start on February 1, 2012.

A Government spokesman said today (January 27), "With the professional background and expertise of its members, the SCCLR has been providing valuable advice on company law reform to the Government to enhance Hong Kong's status as an international business and financial centre.

"The SCCLR has a challenging year ahead as the Government rolls out a new exercise to modernise Hong Kong's corporate insolvency law.  The exercise seeks to reform our existing corporate insolvency regime in a bid to facilitate more efficient administration of the winding-up of companies and enhance the protection of creditors, having regard to international experience and practices.  We look forward to the SCCLR's wise counsel in this important exercise," he added.

The SCCLR was set up in 1984 to advise the Financial Secretary on amendments to the Companies Ordinance and the Securities and Futures Ordinance on matters relating to corporate governance and shareholders' protection, as and when necessary.

Members of the SCCLR include representatives from relevant government departments and regulators, as well as from the relevant sectors or professions such as the accountancy, legal and company secretarial fields.  The list of SCCLR members commencing on February 1, 2012 is as follows:
