Election Committee final register to be released on February 1
************************************************************

The final register of the new term Election Committee will be released on February 1.

"The final register contains the names of all members of the new term Election Committee, who will elect the fourth term Chief Executive on March 25," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) said today (January 27).

The Basic Law provides that the Election Committee shall be composed of 1,200 members from the following four sectors: (a) industrial, commercial and financial sectors; (b) the professions; (c) labour, social services, religious and other sectors; and (d) members of the Legislative Council, representatives of members of the District Councils, representatives of the Heung Yee Kuk, Hong Kong deputies to the National People's Congress, and representatives of Hong Kong members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

"The nomination period for the Chief Executive Election will start on February 14.  As the term of office of the new term Election Committee commences on February 1, the Election Committee members can only subscribe to the nomination form of the candidates running for the Chief Executive Election in accordance with the legislation upon the commencement date of the new term Election Committee.  Each member may nominate only one candidate," the spokesman said.

Copies of the final register will be available for public inspection from February 1 during ordinary business hours from Monday to Friday at the REO's offices (10/F, Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, and 10/F, Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai), and all District Offices.

A notice on the inspection of the final register will be gazetted on February 1.
