Cantonese opera artists to perform Cantonese music masterpieces
***************************************************

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hong Kong City Hall and pay tribute to 20th century composers and arrangers of instrumental and vocal works in Cantonese music, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present three concerts titled "A Concert of Cantonese Music Masterpieces in Hundred Years" in March. This is a must-see opportunity for Cantonese music and opera fans to enjoy live performances of classic works.

In preparation for these concerts, musical scores have been retrieved from archives and rearranged for vocal performance by well known contemporary Cantonese opera artists. There will also be instrumental pieces to give a more comprehensive view of the genre over the past 100 years. The beautiful tunes selected may also bring back fond memories for many supporters of Hong Kong City Hall, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The vocal works include "Why Have You Not Returned", "An Emperor Travelling Incognito Flirted with a Commoner", "The Injustice Done to Dau Ngo", "Romance of the Lovers' Mirror", "Romance of the Phoenix Tower" and "Liu Jinding - Gao Junbao Secretly Visits the Barracks".
