Installation of submarine optical fibre cable
*********************************************

The Government intends to allow China Telecom (Hong Kong) International Limited to lay a submarine optical fibre cable of approximately 38 millimetres in diameter within an area of about 1.85 hectares of foreshore and seabed from Sha Shek Tan at Chung Hom Kok and extending through southeast waters to the eastern boundary of Hong Kong.

The proposed works, which involve installing a submarine cable of about 37 kilometres in length, will be part of a larger cable system for the provision of telecommunication services to the Mainland, Japan and other Southeast Asian countries.

The works are scheduled to commence in May for completion by August this year.

The extent of the area affected is described in a notice published in the Government Gazette today (January 20).

The plan can be seen and purchased on order at the Survey and Mapping Office of the Lands Department, 23/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point. It can also be seen at the Southern District Office, the Islands District Office and Sai Kung District Office and on the Lands Department's website (www.landsd.gov.hk) under Government Notices.

Any person who considers that he has an interest, right or easement in or over the foreshore and seabed involved may submit a written objection to the Director of Lands, 20/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong, on or before March 20.
