Customs inspections at Lunar New Year Fair
******************************************

Customs officers today (January 18) distributed pamphlets to stall operators at the Fa Hui Park Lunar New Year Fair to remind them not to sell counterfeit goods.

Divisional Commander (Trade Descriptions Investigation), Mr Chan Chi-keung, said today that Customs officers would distribute pamphlets and conduct patrols at Lunar New Year Fairs to prevent the sale of counterfeit products.

Last November, Hong Kong Customs sent letters to successful bidders of Lunar New Year Fair stalls, reminding them to check the authenticity and origin of their goods, and to verify with the suppliers if in doubt.

Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, it is an offence for any person to sell or to have in possession for the purpose of trade any goods with a forged trade mark. The maximum penalty is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.

Reports on the selling of suspected counterfeiting goods can be made on the Customs' 24-hour hotline - 2545 6182.
