A total of 149 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 161 summonses were issued to motorists and pedestrians who violated traffic regulations during an operation by Traffic Kowloon East on January 17.
The Kowloon East Regional Traffic Day was conducted between 7am and 11pm and 217 officers from Traffic Kowloon East, District Traffic Teams of Wong Tai Sin, Sau Mau Ping and Kwun Tong were deployed to enforce regulations at traffic accident blacksites and potential traffic accident locations in Kowloon East Region.
Another 236 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and other parking offences.
A total of 17 pedestrians were verbally warned for committing jaywalking and other minor traffic offences.
Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety message were also distributed to the road users.
Statistics revealed that a total of 2,113 traffic accidents with person injured had occurred in Kowloon East Region in 2011.
