Year-end clean-up activities launched on public housing estates (with photos)
********************************************************

With the Lunar New Year approaching, territory-wide year-end cleaning activities on Housing Authority public housing estates are in full swing, with 160 estates all doing their bit to support this annual event.

Officiating at a launch ceremony at Un Chau Estate today (January 17), the Director of Housing, Mr D W Pescod, called for efforts by tenants and cleansing contractors to maintain estate and household cleanliness.

He noted that it is a tradition of the Chinese people to spring-clean their homes towards the end of the year. In parallel, estate staff and cleansing contractors will step up cleaning work of all estate facilities and common areas.

To show his support for the event, Mr Pescod joined in the clean-up in the estate. He also presented a spring scroll bearing the "fortune" Chinese character to the tenants' representative.

Today's ceremony was attended by tenant representatives from all six management regions. While Mr Pescod expressed gratitude for their support, he also urged them to pass on the household hygiene message to their neighbours, family members and friends, so that they could all contribute towards a clean and healthy living environment.
