Contractors fined for violation of safety rules

Woon Lee Construction Company Limited and Kong Lee Engineering Company were fined $80,000 and $29,000 respectively at Shatin Magistrates' Court today (January 13) for violation of the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on June 7 last year in an indoor recreation centre at Tai Wai in which a worker fell from the edge of a spectator stand while engaging in ceiling repair work and subsequently died.
