The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, will visit London (United Kingdom) and Geneva (Switzerland) between January 16 and 19. During his stay in Geneva, he will attend the 130th World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board Meeting.
Dr Chow will first visit London, where he will meet officials from the UK Department of Health, General Medical Council, Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence, and officials responsible for monitoring local healthcare services, to exchange views on areas including healthcare manpower planning and professional development, as well as complaint systems concerning healthcare professionals.
He will also visit the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, an independent organisation under the UK's public health care system. The Institute is responsible for providing guidance and recommending quality standards on illness treatment and prevention.
Dr Chow will depart for Geneva on January 17 (London time). He will attend the WHO Executive Board Meeting as a member of the delegation of the People's Republic of China.
He will return to Hong Kong on January 20.
