Police are investigating a traffic accident in Western District this afternoon (January 10) in which a 74-year-old man died.
About 5.30pm, a light goods vehicle driven by a 36-year-old man was travelling along Des Voeux Road West towards Kennedy Town. Upon reaching near the junction with Western Street, it reportedly knocked down the 74-year-old man who was crossing the road.
Sustaining serious head injuries, the old man was taken to Queen Mary Hospital in unconscious state where he was certified dead at 6.41pm.
The driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is still being detained for further enquiries.
Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island, are underway.
