Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 686 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 45 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a one-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (December 20) and a total of 284 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 573 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 113 FPTs for other traffic offences.  

     Twenty-five pedestrians and 80 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 2,744 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to November this year, of which 911 pedestrians were involved.

     Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 53.3 per cent was attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
