Fatal traffic accident in Tin Shui Wai

     Police are investigating a traffic accident in Tin Shui Wai today (December 20) in which a 73-year-old man died.

     About 4pm, a coach driven by a 48-year-old man was travelling along Shenzhen Bay Bridge towards the Mainland. Upon reaching near the Shenzhen Bay Control Point, the coach reportedly lost control and rammed into the kerb. The passengers on board then alighted. Meanwhile, a taxi driven by a 43-year-old man travelling along the same direction reportedly lost control and knocked down some of the coach passengers who were staying on the carriageway and subsequently stopped after ramming into the kerb.

     A 73-year-old male coach passenger was certified dead at scene while 10 other passengers aged from six months to 50 were rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital respectively.

     The taxi driver felt unwell and was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital. He was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is still being detained for further enquiries.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North are under way.
