EPD reiterates enforcement arrangements for idling engine prohibition
**********************************************************

In response to media enquiries on the enforcement arrangements for the Motor Vehicle Idling (Fixed Penalty) Ordinance, which came into operation today (December 15), a spokesman for the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) reiterated that the EPD and the Police will enforce the Ordinance according to the following arrangements:

(i) during their normal patrol duty, Traffic Wardens will take enforcement action as required by law against drivers leaving their vehicle engines idling; and

(ii) the EPD will co-ordinate pre-planned publicity activities at idling engine black spots. Environmental Protection Inspectors will work with Traffic Wardens to take enforcement action against drivers contravening the idling engine prohibition during these activities.

The spokesman pointed out that the law enforcement staff of the two departments have been clearly briefed on the above enforcement arrangements and relevant publicity will be continued to further enhance public awareness.
