EAC welcomes proposals to improve voter registration regime
***********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Electoral Affairs Commission:

The Electoral Affairs Commission welcomes the several proposed options to improve the existing voter registration system released by the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau today (December 13).

"The recent spate of incidents has provided a good opportunity for the Administration to review the existing regime for voter registration. Some improvement measures such as requiring address proof and whether registered electors should be expressly required under the law to report change of address would require thorough discussion and acceptance in the society before they are taken forward," a Commission spokesman said.

The Commission keeps an open mind on the suggestions and is confident that the Registration and Electoral Office will work closely together with the Administration to put in place the measures after the proposals have been accepted.
