The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, will leave for Shanghai tomorrow (December 9) to attend the High-Level Regional Financial Sector Assessment Programme Outreach Symposium jointly organised by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the People's Bank of China.
Professor Chan will speak at a session tomorrow entitled "New International Regulatory and Supervisory Standards - Their Role in Addressing Systemic Risks?" in the two-day symposium on "Monitoring and Managing Financial Stability: Lessons from and for the Financial Sector Assessment Programme". Apart from meeting with IMF and Mainland officials, he will also meet with regulators and leaders from the financial and economic sectors of the region to exchange views on global finance. The symposium will be held at the InterContinental Shanghai Expo hotel.
On the second day of the symposium, Professor Chan will chair the roundtable discussion at a session entitled "Macroprudential Policy - What Are the Implementation Issues?" before returning to Hong Kong.
