Woman jailed for 25 years for drug trafficking

     A 31-year-old woman was sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment for trafficking in dangerous drugs in the Court of First Instance of the High Court today (December 7).

     The Court heard that officers of the Narcotics Bureau intercepted the 31-year-old woman at the departure hall of Hong Kong International Airport on December 17, 2009 and seized 64 packets of tea bag containing 1.916 kilograms of Methamphetamine or "Ice" worth about $1.6 million from her luggage.

     The woman was subsequently charged for trafficking in dangerous drugs. She was convicted in the Court of First Instance of High Court on September 27 and the sentence was handed down today.

     Police reiterated that drug trafficking is a serious offence and offenders may be liable to a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. Police will continue to conduct operations to combating drug trafficking activities.
