Eight people arrested in connection with vote-rigging in District Council election

     Police have arrested four men and four women, aged between 20 and 56, who were suspected to be in connection with vote-rigging in the Mei Foo South Constituency of the Sham Shui Po District in the 2011 District Council Election.

     Officers of the Regional Crime Unit of Kowloon West arrested the eight people in Kowloon City area during an operation conducted from yesterday (December 6) to early this morning (December 7). The arrestees were suspected to have provided false information to the Registration and Electoral Office, contrary to Section 22 of Cap 541A, the Electoral Affairs Commission (Registration of Electors) (District Council Constituencies) Regulation. None of them voted at the election.  

     The arrested persons were released on police bail and are required to report back to Police in late December.

     Active investigations by the Regional Crime Unit of Kowloon West are underway.
