Election Committee Subsector Elections poll cards sent to voters
**********************************************************

The 2011 Election Committee Subsector Elections will be held on December 11. The Registration and Electoral Office (REO) has mailed poll cards to about 237,000 registered voters in the contested subsectors to inform them of where to vote on polling day.

"Voters may only cast their votes at the designated polling station as specified on the poll card. They are advised to read carefully the address of the designated polling station on the poll card to ensure that they go to the correct polling station," a spokesman for the REO said today (December 3).

"Voters can call the election hotline on 2891 1001 if they have not yet received their poll cards," he said.

The REO has enclosed with each voter's poll card a map showing the location of the designated polling station, a guide to the voting procedure, an introductory leaflet on the candidates in the respective subsector and a leaflet from the Independent Commission Against Corruption on clean elections. Voters in four subsectors, namely Chinese Peopleˇ¦s Political Consultative Conference, Heung Yee Kuk, Hong Kong and Kowloon District Councils, and New Territories District Councils, will also receive a note on the voting arrangements for the Special Members seats allocated to these subsectors.

Voters should take their identity document to the designated polling station in order to cast their vote. They are also advised to bring their poll card to the polling station to assist the polling staff in verifying whether they are visiting the designated polling station allocated to them.

A total of 1,300 candidates will contest 766 seats in the following 24 subsectors: catering; commercial (first); financial services; hotel; insurance; tourism; transport; wholesale and retail; accountancy; architectural, surveying and planning; Chinese medicine; education; engineering; health services; higher education; information technology; legal; medical; labour; social welfare; Chinese Peopleˇ¦s Political Consultative Conference; Heung Yee Kuk; Hong Kong and Kowloon District Councils; and New Territories District Councils.

The 60 Election Committee members allocated to the religious subsector have been returned by way of nomination by the six designated bodies of the subsector.

A total of 277 candidates in 11 subsectors have been returned uncontested. The REO will send to about 9,000 registered voters in these uncontested subsectors a notice and an introductory leaflet on the elected candidate in their respective subsectors.

A total of 110 ordinary polling stations will open on polling day. All the ordinary polling stations are accessible to voters with mobility difficulty or those who use wheelchairs. The ordinary polling stations and the two dedicated polling stations set up at police stations will open from 7.30am to 10.30pm.

Should there be any voters imprisoned or remanded in the Correctional Services Department's custody on polling day, arrangements will be made for them to vote at the dedicated polling stations set up in their respective penal institutions. For security reasons, the polling hours of the dedicated polling stations set up in penal institutions will be from 9am to 4pm.

Information about the elections is available on the election website (www.elections.gov.hk).
