Man arrested for Scheme $6,000 fraud
************************************

Police today (December 2) arrested a 35-year-old man for fraud in relation to Scheme $6,000 (Scheme).

Police received a referral from a relevant department concerning a fraud case in late November. The Regional Crime Unit of New Territories South took over the case for investigations and has revealed that the man had registered for the Scheme in September on behalf of a relative who had passed away.

Officers of the Regional Crime Unit arrested the man in Tsuen Wan this morning and no payment had been made.

The man has been released on bail for further enquiries.

Police reminded the public not to register for the Scheme on behalf of the deceased or other persons. Those submitting such registration may violate Fraud, Section 16A of Theft Ordinance, Chapter 210 of Hong Kong Law, and be subject to a maximum penalty of 14 years' imprisonment upon conviction.
