Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012 open for applications

The following is issued on behalf of the Secretariat Office of Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012:

     Coming into its sixth consecutive year, the renowned Hong Kong ICT Awards (HKICTA) will open for applications on December 15 (Thursday).  All innovative and enterprising local professionals and organisations are welcome to apply and join in the pursuit of top honours.

     Through seamless collaboration between the Government, business community, industry practitioners and academia, the Awards aim to promote and commend outstanding innovative technology and applications achievements, as well as to encourage practitioners to further develop innovative and creative information and communications technology (ICT) solutions for a better life.

     Supported by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012 are organised by 10 local professional associations chosen by a Steering Committee after a competitive selection exercise.  The Committee is chaired by the Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Stephen Mak, to provide overall steer to the award scheme.  Other members of the Committee include representatives from the Innovation and Technology Commission, Invest Hong Kong, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Hong Kong Cyberport.

     Announcing the launch of this year's Awards today (November 30), Chairman of the Organising Committee of Hong Kong ICT Awards 2012, Professor Wong Kam-fai said, "Since the inauguration of the Awards in 2006, their achievements in promoting and fostering support for Hong Kong as the ICT hub in the region are indubitably substantial.

     "Winners of the Awards can showcase their excellence to customers, organisations, the ICT industry and the entire community, and at the same time gain exposure in the international arena," he said.

     The 10 categories of the Awards and the respective leading organisers are:

Best Business Award: Hong Kong Computer Society;
Best Collaboration Award: Hong Kong Software Industry Association;
Best Digital Entertainment Award: Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association;
Best Digital Inclusion Award: The Hong Kong Council of Social Service;
Best Green ICT Award: Green ICT Consortium;
Best Innovation and Research Award: Internet Professional Association;
Best Lifestyle Award: Hong Kong Information Technology Federation;
Best Professional Development Award: The British Computer Society (Hong Kong Section);
Best Public Service Application Award: The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers - IT Division; and
Best Ubiquitous Networking Award: Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association.

     There will be one Grand Award in each category and the best of the best - "Award of the Year" - will be selected by a Grand Judging Panel from the 10 Grand Awards.  All professionals and organisations in ICT industry should seize this valuable chance!  Applications will close on February 6, 2012.
