Austria's Vegetable Orchestra to perform "Onionoise"
****************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department has invited Austria's Vegetable Orchestra to perform on three nights starting next month. With vegetable musical instruments and visual projection mixing with a wonderful smell of vegetables in the air, the concerts will appeal to all the senses. As an encore, some of the audience will be served fresh vegetable soup.

The Vegetable Orchestra is a one-of-a-kind troupe that performs using instruments made from fresh vegetables. The use of a range of ever-refined vegetable instruments creates a musically and aesthetically unique sound universe.

The orchestra was founded in 1998 and has played more than 200 concerts around the world, including shows in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai. It has also participated in various festivals for classical, electronic, improvised and world music with critical acclaim.

There are no musical boundaries for the Vegetable Orchestra. It fuses the most diverse music styles - contemporary music, beat-oriented house tracks, experimental electronic music, free jazz, noise, dub, clicks 'n' cuts - and the musical scope of the project expands continuously. Recently developed vegetable instruments and their inherent sounds often determine the stylistic direction.
