Child abuse case in Yau Ma Tei reclassified as infanticide

     A child abuse case in Yau Ma Tei was reclassified as infanticide this morning (November 28).

     At about 11pm on November 26, Police received an emergency call for ambulance from a 26-year-old non-ethnic Chinese woman who reported that her baby kept vomiting after fallen from the bed at her flat on No. 181 Temple Street. The 11-month-old baby girl was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in unconscious state.

     Upon initial medical examinations and Police investigations, the woman was arrested for ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of a child or young person yesterday afternoon (November 27).

     The baby was subsequently certified dead at 11.15pm yesterday. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the cause of her death. The woman is still being detained pending further enquiries.

     Investigations by District Crime Squad of Yau Tsim District are underway.
