Thirteen local youth uniformed groups (UGs) showcased the multi-faceted activities of UGs through a variety of performances, games and exhibition booths at the UG Day 2011 at Victoria Park in Causeway Bay today (November 19).

The event was jointly organised by the Home Affairs Bureau and 13 UGs, with the Commission on Youth as the assisting organisation. It aimed to enhance the public's understanding of UGs in Hong Kong, encourage youngsters to participate in UGs, display team spirit and promote the value of serving others in the community.

The Opening Ceremony of the UG Day 2011 was officiated by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Stephen Lam, and the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing. A parade of about 700 youth members from 13 marching bands, nine music bands and performing groups lined up in an orderly manner for inspection.

A fun-filled programme then commenced, involving participants of all ages. Visitors enjoyed an array of performances, including musical instrument performance, singing, dancing, dragon and lion dances and artistic cycling. Games and exhibition booths were set up by individual UGs, and free health checks and consultations were offered to the participants.

The co-organisers of UG Day 2011 were the Civil Aid Service Cadet Corps; the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol; the Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps; the Hong Kong Red Cross; the Boys' Brigade, Hong Kong; the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps; the Auxiliary Medical Service Cadet Corps; the Hong Kong St. John Ambulance Brigade, Cadet Command; the Association of Hong Kong Flag-guards; the Girls' Brigade Hong Kong; the Hong Kong Adventure Corps; the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association; and the Scout Association of Hong Kong.
