Agreement on intellectual property co-operation between Mainland and Hong Kong signed (with photo)

     The State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and the Intellectual Property Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (IPD) signed their first agreement in Hong Kong today (November 16) to strengthen co-operation in the area of intellectual property.

     The Commissioner of the SIPO, Mr Tian Lipu, and the Director of Intellectual Property, Mr Peter Cheung, signed the Agreement on Co-operation in the Area of Intellectual Property on behalf of the SIPO and the IPD respectively.

     The agreement strengthens co-operation in the area of intellectual property on the Mainland and Hong Kong by fostering exchange and deepening communication between the two places, with a view to working together to promote innovation and economic growth by attaching great importance to intellectual property.

     Areas of co-operation in intellectual property covered in the agreement include -  

* exchange of information on laws, publicity and education activities as well as automation services;
*  provision of staff training by the SIPO upon the IPD's request;
*  exchange of information and publications of both places;
*  promoting the concepts and trends of intellectual property trading to facilitate the restructuring and upgrading of enterprises; and
*  co-organising exhibitions, seminars, technical exchanges and conferences.

     Today's agreement, the first co-operation deal signed by the SIPO and the IPD, marks a milestone in co-operation between the two places.  Building upon the close co-operation between the SIPO and the IPD in past years, the agreement is the fruit of the rapport and consensus achieved through effective exchanges and further enhances the ties between the two places.
