The 2011 Edition of the Hong Kong Annual Digest of Statistics was published by the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) today (November 11). The Digest is available for downloading (in PDF format) free of charge at the website of C&SD (www.censtatd.gov.hk/products_and_services/products/publications/index.jsp).
The Digest is a comprehensive and convenient collection of official statistics. It contains some 300 statistical tables on a wide range of topics, including:
* Population and vital events
* Labour
* External trade
* Industrial production
* Commerce
* Science and technology
* Land, building, construction and real estate
* Housing and property
* Transport, communications and tourism
* Public accounts, money and finance
* Prices and food supplies
* Education
* Health
* Social welfare
* Law and order
* Culture, entertainment and recreation
* Environment, climate and geography
* National income and balance of payments
This Digest aims to provide detailed annual statistical series on various aspects of the social and economic developments of Hong Kong. Most of the data are presented in respect of seven years: the most recent six years and the last 11th year. This facilitates readers to compare the developments over the recent years and the 10-year or two 5-year intervals in the past. Descriptions of the scope of the statistical data and definitions of the terms used in this Digest are provided in the "Concepts and Definitions" in each chapter.
The print version of this Digest will be available for sale at $346 per copy in end-November 2011 and can be purchased through the following channels:
(i) Purchase in person at the Publications Unit of C&SD (Address: 19/F Wanchai Tower, 12 Harbour Road, Wan Chai; Tel.: 2582 3025);
(ii) Complete a mail order form which is available for downloading at the C&SD website (www.censtatd.gov.hk/products_and_services/other_services/provision_of_stat/mail_ordering_of_publications/index.jsp) and return it to C&SD; or
(iii) Purchase online at the Government Bookstore of the Information Services Department (www.bookstore.gov.hk).
The C&SD has recently conducted a review on the printing of statistical publications and has decided that the print version of this Digest will no longer be produced starting from the 2012 edition. Nevertheless, the publication will still be available for downloading free of charge from the website of the C&SD at www.censtatd.gov.hk/products_and_services/products/publications/index.jsp .
