Counting of votes for District Council Election completed smoothly (with photo)

The following is issued on behalf of the Electoral Affairs Commission:

     Vote counting of 336 constituencies of the 2011 District Council Election was completed smoothly at 3.15am today (November 7).

     The counting of about 1,202,000 ballot papers was completed in about four hours after polling ended last night (November 6).

     Speaking to the media to conclude the election, the Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Barnabas Fung Wah, said, "The counting of votes is smooth and efficient.  The electoral arrangements are open, fair and honest.  The Commission is satisfied with the overall arrangements."

     The Commission will review the electoral arrangements and a report will be submitted to the Chief Executive within the next three months.

     The Commission thanked the 14,000 polling and counting staff and the Government departments involved in the election, especially the Registration and Electoral Office, for making arrangements for electors and candidates so that the election can be conducted smoothly.  The Commission also thanked all the electors for voting, and the candidates and their agents for their co-operation in bringing about an open, honest and fair election.
