Regarding the announcement yesterday that there were inpatients found to be Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers, the spokesperson for Caritas Medical Centre made the following update today (November 1):
In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, screening of contacts has been performed. An 80-year-old male patient, who passed away yesterday due to his underlying illness, was confirmed as a carrier of VRE today.
The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and the situation will be closely observed.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
