The Mong Kok Stadium has taken on a new look after substantial improvement work. To celebrate the reopening of the stadium, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has arranged a launch ceremony on November 15 (Tuesday) to be immediately followed by the stadium's first friendly international football match.
The reopening ceremony will start at 7.15pm and the international football friendly match - Hong Kong Youth Representative Team vs Russian National Youth Team - will kick off at 7.30pm.
Free tickets for the Mong Kok Stadium Reopening Ceremony will be available for collection from November 1 (Tuesday). Public admission will begin at 6.30pm.
Free admission tickets are available to the public at the District Leisure Services Offices of the LCSD in the 18 districts or at the Hong Kong Football Association, 55, Fat Kwong Street, Homantin, Kowloon, from November 1. Each person is entitled to two tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. Addresses and telephone numbers of the District Leisure Services Offices are set out in the attachment, and are also available on the LCSD homepage (www.lcsd.gov.hk). "There will be a variety of programmes at the ceremony, including cheering teams, a drum performance, a lion and dragon dance as well as Police marching bands," said a spokesman for the LCSD.
"Spectators will each receive a limited edition souvenir which is specially designed to celebrate the reopening of the stadium. The souvenir will only be distributed to spectators coming to the stadium on November 15 for them to share the joy of this special occasion and to make this meaningful day more memorable."
The spokesman called on members of the public who obtain admission tickets to treasure this opportunity and attend the reopening ceremony as scheduled. Those who are unable to turn up on the day due to unforeseen circumstances may pass the tickets to their relatives and friends so as to avoid wastage.
Located at 37, Flower Market Road, Mong Kok, Mong Kok Stadium is one of the city's major venues for football matches and community events. The stadium closed for improvement works in September 2009 and reopened in October this year. The renovated Mong Kok Stadium offers more than 6 600 individual seats, of which some 3 300 are covered. The number of wheelchair seats has been increased to 42.
The redeveloped Mong Kok Stadium, with its more refined, safer and more comfortable facilities, can better meet the rising expectations of user groups and public. It is suitable for staging high-level and international football matches and is conducive to the promotion and long-term development of local football.
