The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Stephen Lam, today (October 26, Warsaw time) arrived in Warsaw, Poland's capital city, after concluding his visit to Germany.  The purpose of visiting Poland is to attend the "Hong Kong-Guangdong Business Conference in Warsaw 2011" and meet with political figures and the business community to enhance bilateral economic, trade and cultural co-operation.

On arrival, Mr Lam called on the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Mr Waldemar Pawlak; the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Jacek Najder; and the Co-Chairperson of the Poland-China Friendship Group in Poland's Parliament, Ms Alicja Olechowska.  He also met the President of the Polish Chamber of Commerce, Mr Andrzej Arendarski.

Mr Lam briefed the interlocutors on Hong Kong's latest developments and its good business environment, as well as the business opportunities brought by the robust economic growth in the Pearl River Delta region.  He hoped to see the strengthening of economic, trade and tourism ties between Poland and Hong Kong.

Mr Lam noted that Poland had been able to maintain stable economic growth amidst the international financial crisis and the Euro debt crisis over the past few years.  He welcomed Polish companies to establish their presence in Hong Kong to tap into the Mainland and Asian markets.  He also invited mature Polish companies to consider getting listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.  He believed that as far as the Polish economy maintains its growth trend, Hong Kong companies would be willing to seek commercial cooperation in this emerging market.

Mr Lam updated them on the implementation of the "One Country, Two Systems" in Hong Kong and the constitutional development.

Mr Lam also gave interviews to the local media.

Mr Lam was joined by the Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union, Miss Mary Chow, and the Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Berlin, Mr Stephen Kai Wong.

Together with the Governor of Guangdong Province, Mr Huang Huahua, Mr Lam will attend the "Hong Kong-Guangdong Business Conference in Warsaw 2011" tomorrow and brief representatives from different sectors of the Polish community on the latest situation of Hong Kong-Guangdong co-operation and the new business landscape.

Upon conclusion of the conference, Mr Lam will return to Hong Kong to attend the Legislative Council's debate on the Motion of Thanks on the Policy Address on Friday afternoon.
