Mountaineering Safety Promotion Day 2011 successfully completed

     Autumn is the best season for hiking. To encourage members of the public to familiarise themselves with mountaineering safety know-how while enjoying hiking, the Civil Aid Service (CAS) held the Mountaineering Safety Promotion Day 2011 with several government departments and mountaineering organisations at Sha Tsui Road Playground, Tsuen Wan today (October 23).

     Mountaineering equipments and photos were displayed at the event. Participants of the Promotion Day obtained mountaineering safety knowledge through talks and demonstrations on mountain rescue and handling of injured persons. Many of them took part in activities including hundred-metre orienteering and sports climbing.

     Police dogs, CAS bands, cadet side drums team and bicycle demonstration team also performed for the participants.

     Participating organisations include: the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department; Auxiliary Medical Service; Fire Services Department; Government Flying Service; Hong Kong Observatory; Hong Kong Police Force; Office of the Telecommunications Authority; Association for Geoconservation, Hong Kong; The Hong Kong Award for Young People; Camping Association of Hong Kong, China, Ltd; Hong Kong Hiking Association, China; Hong Kong Amateur Radio Transmitting Society; Hong Kong Mountaineering Union; Orienteering Association of Hong Kong; Raleigh Hong Kong; Scout Association of Hong Kong; and Shenzhen Mountaineering & Outdoor Sport Association.
